Peace Officer

Read the newspaper, watch TV news, listen to radio news reports, or monitor internet news services and there is much evidence of divided societies here and around the world. Even in Christian nations where the Holy Spirit of God ministers unity, factionalism is manifest. Not even man and woman, God’s great love couple, want to marry and stay married. Arguments substitute for terms of endearment, and rap replaces love songs. Our nation and world are much in need of peace and love with law and order.

Law enforcement officers become pressed into the middle of today’s unrest. In a time when peace on Earth should abound, they are shooting and being shot with lethal weapons of high caliber. If guns remain holstered, brawny officers are trained to physically subdue lawbreakers with strong arm locks and choke holds that can become lethal. O for a different spirit moderating the affairs of man.

Global Environmental Service is on record proposing the New Millennium police officer posture as a Peace Officer. Instead of arriving at peace through violence, he brings peace through peace. He is less a formidable figure of force and fear, more a calming presence of compassionate neighborhood public service exuding confidence in every citizen to self-govern, self-motivate, and self-control. The Peace Officer universally promotes and preserves law with love.

There are so many untapped ways for this peace-through-peace genesis to root and flourish. Perhaps composing a collage of characteristic acts, composing a sample of the many creative things that might be done, is the best way to spark a positive change. It leaves plenty of room for good old American ingenuity within a vast tapestry of American neighborhoods to diversely orchestrate implementation.
