The winter temperature regime along the northern U.S. tier overseen by emergent Green Fire Leadership is harsh. January lows average 18°F.  Record lows average -27°F, fully 46F° below average January lows.  Heating burden usually is measured in “heating degree days” or HDDs, which is the product of heating-necessity days times Fahrenheit degrees below the human comfort temperature. HDDs rise with either longer winters or colder winters or both. Northerly-extreme Bismarck, ND, registers a heating burden of 8,851 HDDs, southerly-extreme Austin, Texas, needs about 1,688 HDDs, and centrally-situated Kansas City requires about 5,000 HDDs. Northeast Green Fire first-movers subtend an HDD zone where the average home heating burden is 6,000 HDDs. Each Cultural Core State spans an average of 127 north-south miles. There is a heating burden increase of about 40 HDDs along every south-to-north mile. To meet a 6,000 HDD burden, home heating fuels must supply about 100 MBTUs (that is read 100 million British Thermal Units of energy) over the course of a winter. Roughly speaking, northerly States bear 70% of the Nation’s home heating burden.

 

Given a heating fuel portfolio of gas, electricity, oil, propane, and wood, the cost to winter-heat a northeast home averages about $2,000 or $20 per MBTU. Setting the most expensive heating fuel (oil) to 100%, electricity costs 44% as much, natural gas 33% as much, and least-expensive wood, 28% as much. If suitable replacements for repository fuels are not forthcoming, the populace eventually will scavenge and eliminate precious northeast forests for fire wood. Green Fire, most like wood as a heating fuel, is perpetually available.  Its adoption would save the forests. There is a strong link between right management of science & technology and healthiness of Spirit. When societies peacefully balance technical relationships between human nature and the munificent environment, there is life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. When advancing society takes unwise excursions into indifference, greed, violence, aggression, war, etc., fragile humankind starts to waver, court depression and defeatism, seek distractions, engage escapism, etc., to hide the truth of frustration, under-performance, and outright failure. Lapsing into fantasy, idolatry, gamesmanship, etc., only exacerbates the flagging technical situation and growing human sense of impotence. The Christian Life reaction in such circumstances taps resources of prayerful meditation, diligent search for answers from the Holy Scripture, and sage Christian  counsel.  Those lacking faith in God mull on hopelessness and engage diverse coping mechanisms on the dark side. Drugs use is one of most insidious dark-mind tactics.  It purports to supply artificial motivation when intrinsic motivation goes flat. When God lights the way, His Holy Spirit motivation always inspires good and salutary work. Those lacking insight to remedial work engage unproductive work  or no work at all. The consequential motivation void opens the door to criminal fixes, illicit escapist pleasures, and substance abuse (feel-good, but debilitating, drug rewards for having done nothing effective and worthy of reward).

Feeling good when you really shouldn't opens individuals and societies to exploitation. Pushers of booze and drug highs will heartlessly charge a fortune for fantasy feelings. They can't fix the core problem either, but merchandising drugs to give you a "motivation fix" they can do. They are not your friends, and they seed a desperate drug culture of widening dimensions and negative prosperity. Drug use hides in silence because it is illegal, so controlling things invisible is a further unnecessary burden to society. Drug culture is like a cancer cell in the human body that follows no rules, but eats up all the healthy cells around it. Pressing the cancer metaphor further: we know that only a small percentage of body cells turning cancerous bring death (the more vital the organ, the sooner you die). The caveat is clear: if very many important people dip into drug use, society is going to fail.  In a Christian nation, all are VIPs, and vulnerable youth are no less than Captains of the national and global future.

Research by a medical professional published in the Pitt Chronicle (11 Jan 2010) points to the beguiling use of music to promote drug experimentation and addiction among youth. Music is a key motivator of life, and is best when glory to God is the chief end. My music life early taught me that music is the universal language. I have served through music the cause of Christian Evangelism. Clearly Truth Music can be used to reverse the  subtle trend in modern music to recruit addicts.  A forthright message widely communicated can overpower subliminal lies and greedy extortion. Today's media is bigger than ever, more influential than ever. Those vigilant for Christ and America bear a responsibility to purify its service.

 

The GES music project "Pleasure Tyrant" is being launched this January to help win the battle for the modern mind against destructive drug habits. It clarifies the chasm between real and artificial  rewards. Post-holiday January is a fit time. Many souls elevated for the Christmas holiday and celebrations heralding a new year find themselves sinking during cold, sun-short January. Perhaps Pleasure Tyrant will be preventive medicine for some. Like many tonics, it may not go down easy.  It is one of the few Spiritual songs I have written that is more admonishment than nurture.  It was meant to discomfort in order to warn. If frankness will save a life, why let even one more gullible soul be sweetly and deceptively lured into certain death?  It is time to eliminate false rewards from  American life, and drugs are a hugely false reward. The Pleasure Tyrant Music Project concludes with the challenge to "defeat drug abuse in our time." It will be a successful song only if the Pleasure Tyrant  really is diminished, brought down, terminated. 

Complementing the musical warning about drug abuse is a logical-rational protocol for dealing with many destructive habits. Entitled: Differential Habit Management (DHM), it attempts to put your mind in control of your body to imperceptively cleanse it of habits you want to beat. The human condition might be described as a divine Package from God eventually filling with diverse habits: some good, some not so good. Human responsibility involves increasing the reserve of good habits and weaning away from the bad habits.  The multi-page DHM download sketches its philosophy, defines it practice, and offers easy-to-understand examples.

Green Fire: MiniLog Combustion Demonstration Video   1 October 2017

The Green Fire Video is a scientific record of combustion behavior for a prototypical Green Fire MiniLog (0.8”D X 2.8”L) during its 50-minute combustion life. The video record and included performance data furnish evidence that full-scale Green Fire Logs (4”D x 15”L) can function as a firewood substitute for heating the winter home. Principle fuel source for Green Fire Logs are leaves, a surplus combustion resource available in perpetuity. Green Fire is poised to preserve the world’s forests as repository heating fuels like coal, natural gas, and fuel oil become extinct.  Visual evidence of flame, embers, smoke, and above-ambient temperature across MiniLog combustion lifetime appear in the proof video. Information on MiniLog and Standard Log weight, size, density, residue, heat content, and thermal signature are given. Mass and energy similitude to firewood also is reported.

 

Green Fire can be a substitute for or follower to shale energy, a deep repository fuel expected to deplete in perhaps a quarter century. I have been food gardening over a decade in an urban high-rise apartment setting. Because of yard area limitations, I pioneered the concept of Landscape Food Gardening (LFG). Instead of setting up a rectangular garden plot in open lawn space, LFGs confine the growing space to a two-foot margin along the building exterior or property perimeter. Species biased towards vertical growth work very well here. Year-to-year experimentation has shown that traditional planting densities can be raised substantially with accompanying increase in pound-per-square-foot (PSF) yield. Area productivity gains were aided by subsurface watering-and-feeding (Sub W/F). Re-purposing traditional landscaping zones from decorative to food production while preserving decor is another principle of Landscape Food Gardening. An LFG requires more tending than traditional decorative shrubs and flowers, but it returns beauty and food or cash instead of beauty by expense only. Also favorable in the home-based LFG equation is provision of free, extraordinary, health-enhancing family vine care, vis-à-vis large automated commercial farms and truck gardens.

 

Lawn & Garden crops potentially satisfying family energy needs for transportation and home heating have augmented the Landscape Food Garden experimental repertoire in more recent years. Both Sugar Gardens and Soy Gardens afford green landscape beauty while promising dividends in areas of ethanol fuel production and combustion heating of homes. Green Stream Energy can graciously flow PERPETUALLY from every home for every family securely endowed with a reasonable portion of God’s fertile land, water sufficiency, and heavenly sunshine.   

 

A 34-minute Progress Video on Landscape Food & Energy Gardening (LF&EG) produced by Dr. Patterson is adjacently available for viewing. Data and experiences reported are drawn from micro-gardening experiments rich for scale-up and global replication. Solar LED augmentation of the Test Gardens compose night-time beauty clarifying that enlightenment is the more significant product of the Micro-Garden R&D.

IAn attempt has been made to progress from a 2D graphic model the GES Air Ship to a 150:1 3D physical model of a single module of the Air Ship. This added tangibility was helpful in judging practicality of the JetWay innovation, assessing visual impact of a clear planar envelope, gauging magnitude of the solar-electric field appointing the Air Ship roof, and obtaining a preliminary feel for suitability of the helium-filled tubular aluminum skeleton adapted from box kite construction. Modeling only one of four replicative modules evokes a confirming gestalt of this novel Air Ship design.

IIn the designer’s opinion, the 2D-to-3D progression has not revealed flaws in the basic design philosophy. Since the Air Ship is lighter than air, it may be that the aluminum structure can be relaxed. Perhaps only sewn envelope edges are necessary to preserve rectangular shape. Complex air-filled shapes appointing precious children’s playgrounds imply this sufficiency (see adjacent graphic). It also may be that once filled with helium, the GES Air Ship need never be deflated. Grounded Air Ships may always be tethered slightly aloft, even when hangered, like mooring practices for great cargo ships of seagoing trade.

 

Filling tubular aluminum with lightening helium somewhat patterns the hollow bones of Nature’s birds, should rib-like framing be found essential. Even birds, however, operate in air, not lighter-than-air helium. Intrinsic helium buoyancy alleviates gravity load from the immense Air Ship.

Millennial Estate Progress Report     Refining Your Castle

Central to the Millennial Estate is the family residence. Architectural Spanels, Window Walls, and Fire-Safe Floors borrow from modern monumental building architecture where the deeper pockets of industry and corporate office traditions have bought greater fire-safety, permanence, and marvelous aesthetics. The Green Roof borrows from greenhouse and sun room construction precedents for allowing more healthy, illuminating sunshine to grace home life. There is novelty in Spanels, Window Walls, a Green Roof, and Fire-Safe Floors for home construction, but longstanding success of their precursors should engender confidence in reforming the residential format. There also is common sense to putting the best of materials and designs into the home, as it will become a 24/7 center-of-life in mature societies. Precursor office buildings, sun rooms, and greenhouses have been, at best, an 8-hour-per-day and 40-hour-per-week activity space (rather low utilization). The family home traditionally has been the largest personal expenditure of the American man, but his financial power to refine the residence for greater safety, affordability, permanence, energy rationality, life activity, and beauty has not kept pace with business and government organization resources for architectural advancement. Intrinsic wealth generation of the Millennial Estate lifestyle will recompose the financial field in favor of the homeowner and allow best “Castle Choice” to inure to the day-and-night benefit of creation’s most precious ones: the human family. Since Millennial Estate materials of construction lean heavily toward metal, glass, and concrete, the construction model favors a shift from summertime on-site labor to year-round factory labor, bringing desirable cost-per-square-foot economies. Presently, manufactured homes cost about 30% less per square foot than site-built homes.

The airborne GES Air Ship is a “fair weather” flyer. On the ground, however, the Air Ship must be securely hangered for protection from all weather adversities. GES Air Ship Hanger 3D Modeling has been a beneficial step towards more efficient ground support for the novel, rectangular GES Air Ship.

 

The choice to use a glass curtain wall backed by steel support girders allows the huge full-scale Air Ship to be continuously on display inside and outside the hanger. It is containment akin to an aquarium for displaying aquatic life, only this “fish” is like Nature’s “whale” that explores the ocean of air above us. Hanger transparency accommodates humankind’s expected curiosity to see such a giant flying machine in the air or on the ground. Transparent hanger architecture also affords an added degree of security, since the craft’s condition remains visible at all times.

Scale modeling facilitated a choice to use extendable aluminum tube as landing gear to anchor the grounded airship (instead of mooring rope). The craft lands in still air through the open “convertible” roof with landing legs extended as the pilot guides both forward legs into funnel-type metal receptacles where they (and all trailing legs) simultaneously lock in place. The technicality is somewhat like airborne refueling of fighter aircraft or docking orbiting spacecraft, and may be automated.

Scale modeling an Air Ship module has evoked the notion of flexing GES Air Ship size and cost by incrementing unitary modules. Accordingly, functional Air Ships might consist of one, two, three, or four modules, thereby growing in operational length from 100 feet to 400 feet in 100-foot increments. Hanger architecture can be incrementally augmented also.

 

The translucent accordion form factor used to typify the convertible top for the hanger also evokes design flexibility. Original intent to use a transparent roof allows the Air Ship’s solar roof to power hanger utilities and Air Ship utilities while parked. An opaque or translucent roof affords comforting shade to the hanger interior. Electrical services in this case would derive from ground power or the regional utility grid.

 

Since Air Ship retains upward buoyancy while held by its landing gear, the passenger pod Air Donut deployed during landing serves as a backup ground-contact cushion. It may be necessary to disembark (or board) using mobile stairways. Given such precise parking technology for Air Ship, stairs can be deployed automatically. Accordingly, ground support cost and personnel to land or dispatch Air Ship shrinks nearly to zero. Traditional air ship platforms usually require rather large ground crews (upwards of 15) to manage the large, floating flying machine.

The Millennial Estate Homestead Design Project has progressed to construction of a three-dimensional scale model of the Estate House in 2019. The transition from two dimensions to three dimensions is chronicled in the Power Point Presentation recast here as a downloadable PDF. As always, model building brings added reality to ideas and designs. Photographs taken along the stages of progress allow viewers to re-experience the build almost as though they were there in person. Nothing found in 1:60 scale modeling of the Millennial Estate House disqualifies the design from eventual commercialization. Novelty in heating, lighting, insulating, materials of construction, window space, interior wall concept, furnishing concept, fire safety, floor area & appointments, ceiling concept, siting, etc., appear translatable to residential architecture with many practical benefits. Simplicity of the design becomes even more tangible in 3D, continuing expectations that well-founded marriage & family life can be entered sooner under this homestead principle. As post-industrial society disengages factory production and downtown administration employment, a commuter-free self-sufficient Millennial Family Estate situated in wide-open rural America emerges as a bright hope for living and working with enduring prosperity: a doorway ALL God's Children may enter , leaving present hardship behind.

This chapter of River Power progress unfolds River Channel Management. It involves augmenting Natural River Power by altering the river’s width, depth, or slope. In the face of unrelenting global warming, it is likely that world rivers will be breaching traditional banks and flowing at higher rates.  Furthermore, centuries of agricultural topsoil erosion into the U.S. river system (siltification) has been raising riverbeds, reducing mass flow capacity (i.e., shrinking cross-section), and instigating more frequent floods with significant property damage to adjacent cities and residences.  Crisis-avoiding river channel excavation via River Channel Management can significantly moderate global warming’s adverse consequences to U.S. rivers (and rivers around the world). Intelligent River Channel Management also can posture global river systems for enhanced River Power benefits, easing global energy shortages. Raging waters often do more damage than disturbed air or land. River Channel Management affords ways to constructively channel river fury to the benefit of mankind. The anticipated electricity benefit in these times of energy shortage looms as an investment incentive that prepays damage avoidance and tames mighty rivers of Earth. There are few strategies on the environmental table these days so rich in problem-solving (topsoil recovery, de-siltification), damage avoidance (floods), and shortage relief (energy).

The River Power Two XL Spreadsheet (above) augments the previous energy assessment repertoire for natural rivers with models for assessing power capture prospects via narrowing or deepening natural rivers. Very general river modification cost estimates associated with Channel Management indicate prudent changes can pay for themselves.

Two great working fluids of Nature are air and water. River Power taps the massive advantage of moving water to generate electricity.  Air and water behave much alike, but air is a far easier working fluid environment in which to experiment. This video documents a simple experiment that substitutes air for water to simulate power generation potential of sequential turbo-generators. Premise of the experiment is that hydro-turbo-generators arrayed in a vertical accelerator tube within the confines (that is, limited depth) of a river channel could generate electric power via gravity force of current-advanced falling water.

The Millennial Estate needs to be protected, to be fenced, to be secure from trespass. What I have found thus far to shield beloved home life is an invisible perimeter fence: a collimated infra-red beam that shoots across the landscape straight-as-an-arrow at the speed of light. Trespassers crossing the beam trigger alarms, lights, maybe even an automatic call to authorities.

 

For fail-safe redundancy, I propose a backup security system to guard the domestic core. The most economic design I have found involves dispatching a quadcopter drone equipped with day-night camera, loudspeaker, and a focused searchlight, when the perimeter is breached. This airborne “hound dog” will leap out of its hanger to seek and track trespassers with high specificity. A more general and expensive stationary interior security system is adjacently diagrammed: the centroidal Security Mast. It sees panoramically and broadcasts light and sound over the entire premises.

 

The Millennial Estate produces its own power, serves as its own Utility, via Solar Garden and Wind Garden technology. Estate Owners can incrementally build, use, and sell power, making ownership more affordable. The start-up idea is to generate salable power as a cash stream that pre-pays your Estate House.
