Lithium Battery Long-Range Planning

There is an emergent quietness on the road today. It has to do with rising hybrid and battery propulsion. These technologies bring a welcome peace amidst the traditional highway roar of internal combustion engines. But all is not well in the long term. Some are forecasting exhaustion of the newest and best battery metal: Lithium. Forecasters are predicting depletion of global lithium reserves between 2025 and 2055. This newest automotive battery material also raises concerns about heavy environmental impact and extreme price escalation as supply wanes. Unlike lead, a longstanding battery metal, lithium is not recyclable.

The Lithium (Li) Battery Scenario of Light-Cool Power: Present global lithium reserves are 17 million metric tons. Current annual usage is 37 kilotons. Electric vehicle (EV) use is expected to grow 30-fold by 2030. By 2040, 45 million units (50% of all vehicles) will be electric. Based upon average EV cost of $55,000, annual EV production would be valued at $2.5 trillion. There still would be 45 million per year internal-combustion (IC) vehicles produced. Assuming $36,000 per IC unit, the hot exhaust industry segment value estimate is $1.6 trillion. With present world sales of mostly internal-combustion automobiles around 75 million annual units in an already overheated world, the cool and quiet EV substitution rate for hot cars is neither fast enough to cool the earth nor capable of sustained cooling before Li depletes.

There is a lesson in automotive of never engaging finite energy reserves. The marvelous 20th Century petro car ran into fuel shortage in the 1970s. The electric vehicle drawing from matchless lithium power will become a dinosaur design less than 50 years into its illustrious campaign. The world must find stream alternatives to petroleum and lithium. Makers of personal transportation platforms might consider two proposals from Global Environmental Service (GES) to work towards a trouble-free travel future.

The Recyclable Lead-Acid (PbA) Battery Scenario: GES Sun Salon

Heavy Cool Power – Super Solar Augmentation – Aluminum & Glass Light-Weighting

Automotive genius coursed away from lead-acid propulsion technology because it was too heavy and energy density too low. Range would have to shrink unacceptably for PbA to power a 3,600-pound family sedan. GES Sun Salon propulsion is based upon 250 pounds of PbA battery married to 25 HP drive motors. It introduces innovations collectively compensating for PbA propulsion deficiencies.

Solar Roof: The Sun Salon models an easy-living summer porch-like interior. Streamlining is lateral only. The bus-style cabin supports a 60-square-foot flat roof expanse of solar panels to share the PbA propulsion burden, appreciably shrinking on-board battery’s size and weight. A narrow glass skylight delivers natural light to the passenger compartment, which comfortably seats five over an artificial grass carpet floor. Oxygen-enriching foliage springs from a lovely window box anchored to the floor in front of the driver. Ventilation arrives through adjustable floor vents.

Aluminum & Glass Construction: Materials of construction for the Electric Rolling Porch are light-weight aluminum (1/3 density of steel) top and bottom, and tinted safety glass (1/6 density of steel) composing a 360-degree floor-to-roof greenhouse panorama. A 360-degree tubular aluminum or stainless-steel safety bumper invested with vehicle road lighting surrounds the passenger compartment. Sun Salon has a 1,000-pound curb weight, including the rear PbA battery. The vehicle has all-wheel drive via four swappable self-contained electric Wheel-Suspension-Motor modules. It is guided by Stick Steering akin to military aircraft or handicap powerchairs, free of impalement hazard. Sun Salon can be fit for safe robotic operation.

All GES vehicles are designed to 35 mph max speed for life-and-property preservation as well as fuel efficiency. Sun Salon damage-causing energy is 5% of present automobiles. With total market diffusion, it could decrease annual roadway casualties from the present 35,000 to 1,800. Using an average price per pound of $10 for automobiles, the Sun Salon indexed price is $10,000.

The Ethanol Fuel Scenario: GES TriGo & The Millennial Estate

Hot Perpetual Power – Solar Augmentation – Aluminum & Glass Super-Light-Weighting

Ethanol is a hot perpetual liquid fuel that can replace vanishing petroleum repository fuels like gasoline or diesel. Hot automotive propulsion causes global warming, with attendant climate disruption: loss of polar ice, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, floods, volcanoes, and earthquakes. The ethanol stream must substitute for gasoline at much lower throughput for environmental damage to cease. Global Environmental Service proposes stationary living in the globally adaptable, self-sufficient, one or two-acre Millennial Estate homestead for both global warming and fuel shortage relief. A complementary transportation platform for the salutary Edenic lifestyle is the GES super-light, three-wheeled, ethanol-fueled, rear engine TriGo.

Aluminum Spanels (aluminum-wrapped, reinforced structural foam building blocks) team with a 270-degree panoramic tinted glass canopy, and a hollow aluminum illuminated induction air floor to achieve 500-pound curb weight (85% lighter than the average U.S. automobile). Like the Sun Salon, TriGo has a full-perimeter tubular safety bumper invested with necessary road lighting, a solar-electric roof, and solid alumina tires that might never wear out. In wide use, TriGo could cut roadway deaths and damage 95%, reduce fuel consumption and heat generation 85%, and confer affordable permanence. Interior of the low-profile TriGo offers 1 X 3 supine seating and impalement-free stick steering. The vehicle is an aerodynamic masterpiece, and can be fit for safe robotic operation. Using an auto price per pound of $10, TriGo’s indexed price is $5,000.

Value of Long-Range Planning

When the petroleum crisis hit America in the 1970s, one in five Americans was deriving livelihood from the automobile industry. An American Fleet of 100 million cars valued at $2 trillion could have become a total loss. American families might have languished without vital supplies. Millions upon millions of vital citizens might have perished. Anticipating a compound lithium and petroleum shortage in the next 30 years, a global fleet of 2 billion vehicles valued at $100 trillion might be lost.

Designing automobiles for maximal lightness, minimal fuel consumption, material permanence & recyclability, fabricating simplicity & affordability, and matchless operating safety (design objectives of Sun Salon and Trigo) AND courting free sunshine and perpetual ethanol for motive power, all ominous future mobility losses disappear from the horizon. Connecting this rosier long-range transportation future with a Nature-harmonized global home & lifestyle via Millennial Estate living reverses global warming, stops climate disasters, ends pandemics, relieves hunger, eliminates desperate migration, stops oil wars, terminates terrorism, restores fiduciary soundness, and grants men and women an open door to real love, marriage and family. No more lonely and hazardous, single or divorced, living. It can be a vastly multiplied, filled earth, glorious return to the original paradise given Adam and Eve . . . only better.

Where there is no vision, the people perish.
