Ten Commandments
And the LORD said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them. And Moses rose up, and his minister Joshua: and Moses went up into the mount of God. And he said unto the elders, Tarry ye here for us, until we come again unto you: and, behold, Aaron and Hur are with you: if any man have any matters to do, let him come unto them. And Moses went up into the mount, and a cloud covered the mount. And the glory of the LORD abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud. And the sight of the glory of the LORD was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel. And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights. Exodus:24.12-18
And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel. And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments. And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him. And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him. And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them. And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that the LORD had spoken with him in mount Sinai. And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a veil on his face. But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he took the veil off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded. And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face shone: and Moses put the veil upon his face again, until he went in to speak with him. Exodus:34.27-35
Law and culture in Egypt was corrupt and corrupting. The face of God’s people, including Moses, a visage of distress. Jews needed divine law, eternally good. Troubled Moses was transformed by intimacy with God, the Law of God, Holy Spirit Truth. God’s perfect law transcends things physical (Moses’ body was deprived food & water, as in Jesus wilderness temptation, yet Moses was escalated in beauty, manifesting robust presence and power of the Lord within. When the mind becomes stayed on God, on His law, the brightness of God shines through the believer’s face, beautifying and vitalizing. The Law of God is a Lamp unto my feet, a light unto my path (Psalms:119.105). No longer is there a sense of lostness. Retreating to God in times of turmoil, as in the Nazarite Vow, re-lights the inner man and restores divine serenity: The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace (Numbers:6.24-26). With children, the abiding presence of God, the Father of beautiful thoughts, manifests in their shining, beautiful faces: Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven (Matthew:18.10).

The Ten Commandments were written in stone, perhaps to indicate the unsurpassed durability of what was communicated from God. It rescued the minds of God’s People from chaos of Pharaoh’s wicked ways and gave them something of lasting value. The mind controls the body, so God’s Children are instructed never to let their minds come under the control of wickedness, to be guided by any but Father God. The amazing things done by the Lord in preserving the Jews in their harsh desert journey are indeed marvelous. But, the Ten Commandments were of greater service merit than forty years. They were power to remain unshakeable Children of God forever.
