Deliverance In God’s Name
And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain. And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations. Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt: And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, unto a land flowing with milk and honey. And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God. And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand. And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go. And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty: But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians. Exodus:3:11-22
Moses knew he had been reduced in Egyptian rank from privileged living in Pharaoh’s house. As an alienated man, he had NO authority over Pharaoh. But, the Pharaoh had no god like Moses’ God, and it is in His Name and Authority that he would talk to Pharaoh and utter commands. Less evident in this portion of Holy Scripture is significance of the great pyramids of Egypt as a sign of God’s entry and promise to establish the Body of Christ. Those with modern understanding of corporations and organization charts can easier see God’s Corporation in Body of Christ terminology. Clearly, God had intended to establish Africa as His first kingdom on Earth with construction of so great a pyramid (even several pyramids). So, His words to Moses and Pharaoh indicating that God’s would be served and worshipped atop a natural mountain outside Africa (Sinai or Horeb) clarifies that He was relocating mercy and grace of His presence. Otherwise, the architectural engineering gifts given Egypt would have proliferated as wonderful homes throughout Africa, sheltering inhabitants of the only tropical continent from blazing sun, and moderating their skin color adaptation. Absent Moses’ in-continent leadership, consummate Africa at Cape Town lived as slaves in shanty towns, digging jewels for others.
When God revealed His name to Moses as “I am that I am” or the great “I am,” another immense key of deity was given to His people. Forefathers knew Him as LORD. Moses’ enlightened communication made clear to the Jews that God is eternal, omni-present, and omniscient. “I am” implies forms of the verb “to be.” To God, past, present, and future are all “present tense” knowledge. Moses was given superior information about the LORD so God-oriented and informed Jews would better appreciate the sovereignty of God, know Moses was specially empowered by Him, and could completely trust in both God’s and Moses message of deliverance to a land of milk and honey. Just payback for 400 years of bondage also would be arranged by Sovereign God: punishments and reparations for Egypt’s de facto war against His Chosen People, the precious Lambs of God. Gold and silver amounted to re-payment of back wages. God’s wonders earned Him fear and respect among Egyptians that also would inure to the departing Jews.
Situating “three days” away from Egypt to worship and serve Almighty God was mentioned a few times to the Pharaoh. Truly, grace was leaving Egypt and Africa. Even Joseph’s bones (sign of connection continuity) were carried out of Africa (Exodus:13.19). But, there was this merciful hint of remaining near enough to be invited back should full respect be accorded. Those who trace Israel’s 40 years in the wilderness show that much wilderness time was spent approachably near Africa and the Red Sea. Sadly, the Pharaoh did not have a change of heart even after much reflection. Now there are no more Pharaohs. The pyramids are nothing more than massive Pharaoh tombstones. Great city architecture stands a ghost town, no building expertise proliferating to continental Africa left languishing in fragile straw community houses and shanty towns.
