Bible References on Marriage

Galatians:5.23

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering (perseverance), gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance (self-control), against such there is no law.

Wives are a figure of the Holy Spirit in marriage: God’s Comforter (John:14.15-17). She is a dove that feathers the nest. She is given a domain (the home) she did not have to build or conquer. If the husband is King of his Castle in American jurisprudence, wives are the queens . . . albeit house-working, baby-nursing, nestling queens. She need not know the world with its rules and hardness, though the husband does. She is given a pedestal of grace by God and husband in a most special gentle-life preserve. By living so comprehensively in the Spirit, she floats like an angel above the law, more than fulfilling it through the beauty of God-given holiness. Obedience to the husband, even when he is less than perfect, keeps her blameless in his eyes, and in the eyes of God. I have heard many men say that they work in hard places and walk through hell, for the joy awaiting at the end of the day, home with their beloved wives and children. It is as close to heaven as things on earth have yet gotten.
