Bible References on Marriage

Genesis:2.18-24

And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all of the cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh instead thereof; and the rib which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, and they were not ashamed.

Naming rights identify God’s ordained hierarchy of authority. Adam over the animals, Adam over his wife. Woman came from the side of Man. Marriage rejoins woman to the side of man, re-establishing one flesh, as in the beginning. She is to live a marriage style that keeps her close to his side, on his arm, in his light, continuously receiving his love in heavenly and earthy ways. Nakedness privately between them brings no shame. It is the romance custom of the man to guide the woman by words of love, to kiss the woman for her reflection of love’s words and ways back to him, to hold her hand, to walk arm in arm, and be the only man having intimate knowledge of her for oneness and bonding to perfection. The enveloping touch of the man passes the Holy Spirit of God from the man to the woman in continuous love and sanctification. In this regard, he is her Lord and High Priest of Sanctification. Her Godliness comes from him, brings him glory, even as she is being presented to God as a glorious and eternal palace of inward and outward beauty. God’s matchless gift of children comes through the man to her and to the world. By beloved progeny, faith is continued, the world is preserved, and God’s Kingdom shall ultimately prevail.
