June is America's Marriage Month. Regarding love, marriage, and family the cornerstone of American Life, it seems fitting to dedicate June blogs to marital bliss. Many U.S. theologians have warned that the institution of marriage is under attack and failing in these turbulent times. Since Christian marriage begins with vows, reforming them can be a key to making the marriage covenant more secure. So this first Marriage Blog offers Heavenly Marriage Vows for consideration by engaged couples, or married couples thinking to renew their vows. Later Marriage Blogs will elaborate referenced passages from the Holy Scripture along with supportive commentary to bind the Heavenly Wedding Vows with the unwavering Holy Spirit ribbon of truth.

Heavenly Wedding Vows

I, Adam, receive thee, Eve, as my wife, Called of God in kindred Spirit, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part, according to God's holy ordinance, and towards that Perfect Oneness promised by our Heavenly Father. As God gives me fatherhood grace, I will give you children in His name and mine, to bear and nurture with sacred trust, to train up in the Lord, discipline with unconditional love, and never abandon. I promise to love you as our Lord loved His Church, and gave himself for it. With God’s help, I will be your sure provider always, faithfully answering your every petition of need and desire for joy. I will treat you as a most precious treasure from the Lord, endeavoring that we live harmlessly separate from a fallen world, and abundantly blessed in God’s house and will. May God grant me tenderness of word and way in our love, that we always be heavenly together, bound with unwavering truth and trust and unfeigned affection, and that I stand faithfully by you for every husband moment.

"I, Eve, receive thee, Adam, to be my husband of kindred Spirit, answering your Call in the Lord to be your Ordained and loving wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part, according to God's holy ordinance, and with fidelity towards that Perfect Oneness promised by our Heavenly Father. As God gives me motherhood grace, I will bear and tenderly nurture your children as a sacred trust from God and you. I promise to submit quietly in love to your headship in our marriage and family, as to the Lord, honoring no other earthly authority, hiding no secret life, and serving your happiness above my own or our children. I will do my best to give you a home life that is serene and beautiful, to be yours without shame privately, expressively and liberally loving; but modestly covered, quiet, prudent, and subdued in public, there preferring your arm and your hand and your voice of guidance and protection. May God grant me tenderness of word and way in our love, that we always be heavenly together, bound with unwavering truth and trust and unfeigned affection, and that I remain faithfully by your side for every wifely moment.
